Series Description

These works are rooted in a slow, meditative approach to print making. Created by hand using early photographic techniques, each print is a colorful homage to somewhere warm and tropical.

Soft pastels and sun washed palettes shape the composition of rectangular fields of color. Each print features a mandala created in the darkroom by sculpting light through crystal glass. Historical photographic methods and a little darkroom magic pair to create a series of timeless photographic prints.

From the original gum dichromate print.

Maxwell Marshall is a photographic artist creating modern mandala prints using early photographic processes.

Inspired by the color palette of Indian street corners, temple walls, and sun kissed pastels from Sri Lankan beach towns, each print is uniquely created using the gum dichromate and photogram process.

Sculpted with light and printed by hand, Maxwell's work blends ancient symbols with modern simplicity. His mandala art is rooted in repetition, ritual, and the pursuit of balance through form and color.
